7 Lakes Basin Hike

Nathaniel, Joshua, Grandpa, David, and Cody went on a long 4 day hike over Labor day weekend. Joshua was really proud of himself, they hiked about 39 miles total. Mommy barely survived without them, church was a bit exhausting with five kids and just mom.

First Day of School!

So Logan started school a week after the other boys started and he could hardly wait to go to school! He kept asking when it was his turn to go on the bus. The night before his first day of school, he woke up coughing and having asthma attack. I fretted all morning trying to decide if he should go to school or not, but ended up letting him go so he wouldn't miss that first day. He was just fine at school and I didn't get a call to come give him medicine (although I stayed close to the phone all day wondering if it was going to ring). Nathaniel happened to have the day off, so he and I and Wesley and Brigham walked down the road to meet Logan as he got off the bus. The bus was 15 minutes late and when it came, all our boys got off except Logan!! He wasn't on the bus!!! After hustling back up the hill and calling transportation, we found out he had been put on the wrong bus (I guess there had been a lot of confusion and craziness getting all the Kindergartners on the bus). I ended up having to drive to Albertson's to meet the bus he was on in order to get him. By the time I finally had him in my arms, he was flushed and said the bus was so hot and he thought he was going to throw up! Poor Logan, he got lots of lovies and attention when he got home. I emailed his teacher and pinned a bright yellow paper with his bus # on his backpack. Hopefully the second day goes better. Logan said he didn't want to go to school because it was too long, but other than that I think he enjoys school.

Last of the Summer Fun

As a last Hurrah to summer, we went and stayed in a bunkhouse at Ensign Ranch near central WA. We weren't into the smoky part of the state there which I was very grateful for. It is a church owned and run camp that has a lake, canoes, horseback riding, and (the most fun for my boys) the giant slip 'n slide. Our first day there was hot and sunny, perfect for all the water activities. The second day was cooler and cloudy but still ok to do the slip 'n slide. Joshua was the only one of our kids that was tall enough and weighed enough to go on the 45 minute horseback ride, so Mommy got to go too! It was a bit scary at first, but we quickly felt comfortable on the horses (they are trained well and basically follow the lead horse). Joshua fell in love with his horse named Captain. He told me, "if I ever have a horse, I'm going to name him Captain. I wish I could get one of my horses old horseshoes to take home to remember him. That was definitely worth the $15!" These kinds of comments were made the whole rest of the trip. Jonas, Jesse, and Logan were able to go on the 15 minute horse ride where Nathaniel led the horse around a fenced in area. They said they enjoyed it. We were glad we were in a cabin for the last night and packing up the next morning because it was raining! Yeah for rain!!
